NES collecting (and video game collecting in general) requires you to have an extensive vocabulary and working knowledge of terms, phrases, and acronyms specific to the hobby. Getting started as a collector can be a little overwhelming, and shopping in a used game store, attending a convention, or even watching a video online can be like traveling to a foreign country where you don't speak the language.

Illegal copy of a game produced for sale without consent from Nintendo or the owner of the game software.

Short for cartridge, referring to the plastic shell of a game.

 

Complete In Box - Generic term that refers to a game that is in its original box or packaging along with the manual. Copies that include additional paperwork or inserts may be referred to as CIB+ or 100% CIB.

Common name of the Family Computer, the Japanese predecessor of the NES released by Nintendo in Japan in 1983.

Printed Circuit Board

Refers to the plastic shell that a graded game is put into.

Seal of Quality

Refers to a game that was made to be played on the NES but was not authorized by Nintendo. Original game software that was legally published.

Refers to any feature or element of a game or its packaging that is different than another copy of the same game.

Marketed name of the light gun controller for the NES. Came in gray and orange plastic varieties.
